PCS'd into the Artic Abyss

Blue was the color of his finger tips, toes and lips once he step off the plane in Alaska. It has been over a week since Scott got to Ft. Wainwright. It has been 13 degree's all the way to -42, soon to be about -50.

Since Scott has been assigned to a Replacement Unit and his Unit left back in October. A lot of the guys in his unit are set to deploy between Jan. 7th - 12th, Scott was supposed to go but his 1 SGT may be putting off his deployment until later in January.

Ok so now onto the continued saga of ~ too move or not to move?!?!

I had it in my head that we would move as soon as possible....then I started checking on the prices of rent and then the whopping cost of utilities, WOW!! What are they thinking?! So then I start wondering if the cost of rent and utilities will surpass our monthly BAH, hmmmm duh! So now We talk and decide that maybe it would be best if we live on post. Given that thought we know that the wait for a houe is at least 5 months away. So we decide to go for on-post housing. Now until last night this was our plan, but as with everything else we had attempted to plan for ~ this one also got turned up side down. So now everything is in the works; 1 st SGT got the ball rolling, he may have put Scott's deployment on the back burner, he has already gotten the Medical approved.

So this is it as it stands now: they have to finalize our orders which should be completed by tomorrow afternoon. Once that is done those papers will go to housing, once they have a house for us they will arrange for our flight. Then they will complete all of the necessary paperwork for moving all of our stuff. Sooooo as of this second this is how it all stands!! I am most definitely not carving this in stone!

To Move or Not to Move, that is the Question?!

I am not joking when I say move or not to move?! What would you do (not that it will really make my decision to move or not to move, you didn't honestly think you had that much control over me "Did You?" ). My GI Joe is being PCS'd on Dec. 18th to Fairbanks, Alaska. I have done quite a bit of research on this area...hmmm let's just say that it is cold, not like the California cold that I am used to. It is nothing for it to get down into the negative 20's....that's not factoring in wind chill. We will have to change so many things about the way we carry out normal day to day activities. Don't ask me like what, I don't know yet.

The girls will be graduating this year...that means that they will both be graduating from a fairly new school. But I guess that is one of the things about being an Army Brat. But think of all of the new people they will meet and the choice of which school to go to for their Class Reunions.

So the real thing is when he PCS's they very well could deploy him within 30 days. Now....obviously this will mean that he will not be there with us. So in all reality we will move to a totally new environment, life style, circle or people to get to know. Now mind you we have never been around the Army lifestyle or people. Well other than for graduations from BCT/AIT. Hmmm is it an Adventure of a Lifetime, just go for it!
